About Campus Atlas USA
Campus Atlas USA is an independent directory of colleges and universities in the United States. It indexes 203 institutions across 51 states and districts — 3,885,960 students, 19 fields of study, 5 degree levels and 22 guides.
Why it exists
American higher education is hard to compare from the outside. There is no central register of programs, tuition appears in three price bands, and the word “university” covers both a 74,000-student land-grant campus and a 160-seat conservatory. This atlas answers the structural questions first: what exists, where it is, what it teaches, what it costs, who gets in.
How data is compiled
- Records come from public fact sheets, governing-board filings and state system reporting, normalised into one schema.
- Enrolment, tuition and acceptance values are rounded for orientation. Enrolment, tuition and acceptance figures are rounded planning values compiled in 2025/26 for orientation. Verify exact numbers with each university's official fact sheet before you apply.
- The quality index (0–98) is editorial: reputation 35%, research capacity 25%, selectivity 20%, outcomes 20%. Details on the methodology page.
- The homepage assistant is rule-based, not a language model given free rein: it detects state, city, field, degree level and campus name, then reads this same index. When it has no match it says so.
How to use it well
Shortlist eight to twelve schools here, then verify every decision-critical number on the official campus pages linked from each profile: current tuition, departmental admission requirements, funding guarantees, housing contracts, visa certification. A directory is a map, not the territory.
